Itinerary

Day 1

Lima

Upon arriving at Lima, there is a reception and transfer to the selected hotel and overnight.
Day 2

Lima - Cusco

After an early breakfast, there is a scheduled transfer from the hotel to the airport to take the flight to Cusco. Upon arriving at Cusco, there is a reception and transfer to the selected hotel
In the afternoon, there is a guided city tour to visit: the Cathedral, very important for its architecture and collection of canvases from the “Escuela Cusqueña” (Academy of Cusco); the Temple of the Sun or “Koricancha”, a classic example of the fusion of Inca and Western cultures and the archaeological sites of Sacsayhuaman, Q'enqo, and Tambomachay. Return to the hotel.
Day 3

Cusco

After an early breakfast, starts a full day excursion to visit Machu Picchu the most important archaeological site in Peru. The citadel is located 113 Km (70 miles northwest of Cusco.) The tour starts with an early transfer to the railway station for the morning train ride to Aguas Calientes for about three-and-a-half hours. Then, continues with a 20 minute bus ride up to the archaeological site for a guided tour. Rediscovered by Hiram Bingham in 1911, Machu Picchu is considered an absolute masterpiece of architecture and a unique testimony of the Inca civilization. At the scheduled time, return to Cusco and transfer to the hotel. Lunch is not included.
Day 4

Day 5

Cusco - Puerto Maldonado

After an early breakfast, there is a scheduled transfer from the hotel to the airport to take the flight to Puerto Maldonado. Reception at Padre Almirez International airport. Here your professional guide will await you. Embarkation will be at Capitania port, the destination being our lodge. We will navigate approximately 40 minutes on the Madre de Dios River in a typical Amazonian boat. Arrival at the Corto Maltes Amazonia Lodge. Here we will have a welcome cocktail. Afterwards you will be handed over the keys to your bungalow and we will have lunch. In the Afternoon gets time to have some first contact with the jungle. On this trek you will see a large variety of tropical trees, medicinal plants, insects, butterflies and other animals. Upon return we will make a small stop at a lookout. Here you can observe toucans, macaws and other species of birds upon your return for sunset...
Day 6

Corto Maltes Amazonia Lodge

5:00am we will go on a trek of about 20 min until we arrive at the parrot clay- lick. Here a minimum of five different species feeds on special clay, vital to their metabolism. It’s a truly marvelous, multicolored spectacle. 10:00am: We will navigate the Madre de Dios River. This time on an expedition destined to “Monkey Island” where some species of these interesting and entertaining animals live in freedom. Following another boat ride of 30 min we will enter the territory of the Tambopata- Candamo National Reserve. We will trek 5km through the dense vegetation of the tropical rainforest. Giant trees, snakes, monkeys, birds and sometimes even the illusive jaguar can be observed here. Our next destination is heavenly Sandoval Lake. Its privileged settings are shared by numerous species of animals: Birds (in particular Hoatzins, Kingfisher, and Cormorants), different species of monkeys (Squirrel monkeys, Howler monkeys, Capuchin monkeys)...
Day 7

Corto Maltes Amazonia Lodge

8am: Breakfast and free time to have a bath in the pool or maybe buy some exclusive Amazon handicrafts and jewelry in our shop.
10am: We will follow the course of the river for approximately 1,5 hours in order to visit a native community. Occasionally we can see monkeys, river turtles, caimans and various birds in the dense vegetation of the riverbanks. We will also see some medicinal plants. (Sangre de Grado, Oje, Capirona).

1pm: Circumnavigating the Gamatida Island we can occasionally see animals escaping the human presence. Afterwards we will visit a chakra (local term for farm). We will get to know a variety of tropical fruits and other local products (Cocoa, bananas, café, cocona). Here we will also have lunch consisting of a typical Amazon dish...

8pm: Dinner is served. After dinner you can retire to our bar to have some tropical cocktails, relax chit-chatting in our reclining seats at the central terrace or have a bath in the pool underneath the shining Amazon sky.

Day 8

Corto Maltes Amazonia Lodge - Lima

After breakfast its time to say goodbye to the setting and staff of Corto Maltes Amazonia. Your guide will accompany you on your way back to the city. Afterwards our personnel will accompany you to the airport wishing that your stay was as pleasant for you as it was for us to show you this beautiful corner of Peru. Upon arriving at Lima, there is a reception and transfer to the hotel.
Day 9

Lima

Breakfast. At designated time, a tour of the city of Lima begins with the historic downtown that was recently declared by UNESCO as a "World Heritage Site" because of its numerous architectural buildings. This represents the strong European Middle Age influence. Important buildings to visit are the Government Palace or “Casa de Pizarro”, the Municipal Palace, Lima's Cathedral, San Francisco church and convent with valuable works of art and stone and wooden structures and balconies of colonial houses. The tour ends with a visit to the modern suburbs of San Isidro, and Miraflores. San Isidro has modern apartment buildings and beautiful parks such as El Olivar with olive's trees brought from Spain in the 15th century. Miraflores with its Central Park and Larcomar Shopping Center that overlooks the Pacific Ocean.
Day 10

Lima

After breakfast, a scheduled transfer from the hotel to the airport for the return flight to Home.
